A very ambitious program, a complex morphology of ground, a heterogeneous site : project faces up numerous pressures. Existing library, sized to receive 3 500 students, must now receive 10 000 students: Project offers a recentralisation of the different areas to allow better correlations between them and with the users. By choosing to establish the new building in continuity with the existing one, our party was to exploit the morphology of the ground to create a structured garden, a true « green base ». It assures a physical and visual link of BCU’s gardens and ancient priory of the city.

Extension is made of 3 parts: _ a block of three levels buried under the garden (compactus, technical areas and reserves) _ below, reading rooms _ Street side, administrative areas The 2 functions set up on both sides of an atrium which contains all vertical circulation : the spine of the project.

The same language of facade is used for the whole extension. It gives it an identity : the glass treatment with wood vertical bardage lets an abounding natural light going into the depth : the interior and outdoor areas are mixed in continuity with the city.
